How does your space drive productivity, collaboration and connectivity?

Our office space was designed with an open layout to invite employees to work together and foster collaborative conversations. We encourage our employees to sit wherever they work best - whether that be their desk, a comfy chair, window sill, or up on the roof. To remain productive in our open concept office, we have a variety of rooms with sliding doors for our employees to use whenever they need a little privacy for heads-down work, 1:1s or small team meetings. To reflect the creative and collaborative nature of our team, most of our walls double as dry erase boards so we can do everything from quick math to drafting our product roadmap. As a team, we’re all driven by results. In our communal office space, we have action figure trackers that create transparency and focus around company goals and help communicate our progress with the entire team.

What is the one thing that is unforgettable when someone walks through your space?

The one thing we hear the most about our space, is how open and collaborative our space is. Because Torchlite is comprised of so much more than just our 15 full-time employees, we pride ourselves on being as welcoming as possible. We always keep open desks for our Torchliters to come, plug-in and work from our office whenever they’re in the neighborhood. Sitting just one story above Mass Ave, our office maintains the energy of the city, without the noise or stuffiness of working way up in a skyscraper.

How does your space tell your company’s story and reflect its brand?

Our office space was designed to reflect our core values; communication, collaboration, and curiosity. We have an open concept office, different gathering areas, and meeting spaces that foster curiosity and collaboration. We are incredibly proud of the brand and culture we have built at Torchlite, so you’ll find pops of Torchlite orange across the office from our projected logo and triangle pattern on the walls to our dish towels in the kitchen.

How does your space engage your employee base?

As an agile startup, we are constantly finding new ways to ensure alignment between our teams and foster collaboration. Our white board walls so we can jot down ideas wherever and whenever they come to us. We also have a dedicated agile board in the kitchen. Our team uses the agile board to make product recommendations. Our Product team takes the suggested feedback and the entire team can view progress as their suggestions progress through steps of production. Our kitchen serves as one of our most central hubs. It is where we have quick meetings over pretzels and a diet coke, enjoy lunch together, host happy-hours and parties. Most importantly, the kitchen is where we have weekly Friday Stand Up meetings so that each department can share what they have been working on for the week, collaborate together on our goals, and celebrate accomplishments.
