The Speak Easy was founded in 2011 with a mission to cultivate the healthiest entrepreneurial ecosystem, anywhere. The four founders (Kristian Andersen, Jeb Banner, Andy Clark and Dave Castor) sought to create a place for all disciplines to collaborate and work beside each other. A place for education, conversation and a little something we like to call manufactured serendipity.

The Speak Easy opened its doors in February 2012 as the first collaborative workspace serving entrepreneurs in the Central Indiana community. As an independent 501(c)3 member based non-profit organization, The Speak Easy brings established businesses and entrepreneurs together for the good of everyone in Indianapolis.

How does your space drive productivity, collaboration and connectivity?

We are a place for entrepreneurs to create, collaborate, and learn. We offer an organic source of help and partnership for like-minded individuals to chase big dreams. We believe entrepreneurship isn’t limited to a single mold; it’s how an individual interacts with their work and drives change through their product. Our members come from a range of industries representing established business with entrepreneurial roots, and new and innovative startups, alike.

What is the one thing that is unforgettable when someone walks through your space?

The building uses a large amount of reclaimed items, and our entry wall uses panels of reclaimed wood from several sources. It is known as “Indianapolis' most photographed wall."

How does your space tell your company’s story and reflect its brand?

Because of the large amount of reclaimed items and the nature of operation in the space, it requires you to figure out how to use the resources you have access to and maximize those resources to create something bigger than yourself.

How does your space engage your employee base?

The Speak Easy has launched over 170 companies from our space in the 4 years we've been in operation. This is in large part to the ease and flexibility of our space. We are able to use the space as a working location, a place to convene and meet, a place to host events, and most importantly a place to move your business forward.
