How does your space drive productivity, collaboration and connectivity?

As a small but growing office, we value spontaneous conversation and collaboration. And the team in Indy is a combination of sales and marketing, so we like to spend time together! Our open concept office makes it easy to connect with one another, as no one—from interns to SVPs—has an office or cubicle. Instead, we all share one common space, with glass-walled conference rooms and phone booths for private meetings and conversations.

Our space also features a variety of open areas for impromptu gatherings, from soft seating (especially popular on Friday afternoons) to our large open kitchen area. On Mondays and Wednesdays, catered lunches are served on the kitchen island and many team members step away from their desks to eat and socialize with co-workers.

Even something as simple as office furniture can contribute to a productive and pleasant work environment. Every desk has flexible height controls, allowing people to move from standing to sitting as often as desired throughout the day. Sometimes a change of perspective is all that’s needed to get through a challenging task.

What is the one thing that is unforgettable when someone walks through your space?

We like to think we have the most amazing view in town—floor to ceiling windows face out onto Monument Circle across the entire front of our office. We love the wide open space, natural light, positive energy, and buzz this view provides, especially with all the activities on Monument Circle during the summer months.

How does your space tell your company’s story and reflect its brand?

As a new outpost of an existing company, we deliberately incorporated Hoosier history throughout our space while staying true to the Return Path brand. Return Path’s primary brand colors—red and gray—are featured prominently throughout the space. And our team of talented designers created unique features for the space using original iconography, which is a big part of our brand identity.

As you approach our office, you’re greeted by a frosted glass “icon wall” that incorporates imagery related to the brand, Indianapolis, and our office identity—including a few “inside jokes.” Our conference rooms and phone booths—named for Indiana legends like John Dillinger, James Dean, Jane Pauley, David Letterman, and Kurt Vonnegut—also feature this icon-based signage.

Throughout the office we display posters and graphics of to keep our brand top-of-mind, such as the “RP Way” values poster found outside the Letterman conference room.

How does your space engage your employee base?

Being in the email business, of course we LOVE email—but we also know how to reach beyond email to engage our employees. Throughout our space you’ll find several TV monitors that feature “RP TV” streaming news, announcements, events, and achievements from our offices around the world. We also have a monitor that displays “RP Faces,” a rotating assortment of bios on all Return Path employees.

Free food practically ensures employee engagement, and our large, open kitchen space allows us to host happy hours, bi-weekly lunches, and other events. As we continue to grow and expand into additional space, we plan to keep this open kitchen area to create a space where everyone can come together—even those in different departments that don’t often work together. We’ll also maintain our “no office” policy to help encourage natural interactions between employees at every level.

Return Path “swag” is part of everyday life in our office. As you walk through our space, you’ll see hoodies and blankets, branded mugs and tumblers, tee shirts, hats, and a variety of stickers. Many of these were “desk drops” to promote various product launches and campaigns, while others are souvenirs from events we’ve hosted. Surrounding ourselves with Return Path gear helps to reinforce our brand and creates a lot of excitement when a new “gift” is handed out.
